Welcome to my "piano teaching" website. First, here is a bit of information about me.
My wife and I taught in American Schools in Peru and Yugoslavia after completing our Bachelors and Masters degrees. My
undergrad fields were Music History and Composition, Music Theory and my instrument was piano. My Masters degree is in Early
Childhood and Elementary Education. Upon returning to the United States, I was hired to teach Child Growth and Development
in a vocational high school in Franklin Massachusetts. In the past 4 years, Spanish and Music Theory and Appreciation have
been added to my teaching schedule. I'm busy...but I really enjoy a fast paced work day and the high school kids are fantastic!
Each afternoon, I teach piano lessons in my home studio to students that range in age from 5 years to adulthood. It is
particularly rewarding to bring a student from the very begining of their music study on to high quality performance.
One thing I have learned is that not every lesson is going to go flawlessly, or even stick to the "routine". More time
is frequently needed for one skill and often, parts of the lesson have to be omitted. We might spend the entire lesson on
sightreading, or problems with the piece the student is studying, or perhaps perfecting exercises. The role of piano teacher
also occasionally becomes that of councellor. This is especially true with adults who are much more insecure about their progress
and much more demanding upon themselves, to the point of it frequently impeding progress. This will be discussed later.
